Fans of “The Munsters,” that old black & white show with Fred Gwynne as the lovable Herman Munster, may remember the dungeon, where Grandpa prepared magic potions. His concoctions, with ghastly ingredients such as eye of newt, could turn a person into almost anything. It’s a silly show. It makes an even sillier metaphor for this blog’s topic, leadership.

Besides Mardi Gras, New Orleans is perhaps best known for its jazz. Like many musical styles, jazz comes in different flavors. Some of the music I enjoy is like jazz in the sense that it is hard to categorize by a single style. For example, which category defines a group like Chicago (one of my top 5 faves.) Compare their songs “Beginnings”, “Color My World”, and “25 or 6 to 4” and you’ll understand what I mean. I could make a similar case for the Gaither Vocal Band.

Procrastinating about a difficult decision is understandable. We’ve all experienced situations where problems lingered or opportunities passed us by because we waited, too long. The expression “let me sleep on it” can be a responsible approach to the decision-making process. But it can also be used as a convenient excuse for indecision.

More computing speed and memory is available in today’s run-of-the-mill laptop computer than a whole rack full of PDP-11’s. The combination of cheap computing power, widespread access to residential broadband and Voice Over IP (VoIP), set the table for what we all heard about in the 1960’s, what I flirted with in the 1980’s and what I experienced in the late 1990’s – video conferencing.
