“Everyone is entitled to his opinion.” Oh, how many times I’ve heard that expression! What is this thing called an opinion that everyone has a right to possess? To get the ball rolling, here are a few opinions about opinions.

There is opportunity everywhere for anyone that knows where to look. But, it requires overcoming a downstream mentality. Generally, people see only the downstream opportunities because that’s where they look.

The wonder of life reaches new heights for those who become adept at seeing with their imaginations … Two dusty old rocks plus Karen’s imagination, skill, patience, hard work and some special know-how created some very nice artwork that I will be proud to show off for years to come. But the deeper satisfaction belongs to Karen.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to living a good life is our belief that comfort and happiness go hand in hand. We have been further deceived into thinking that wealth and material things are the path to comfort and happiness. We paint a picture of carefree living, void of pain and stress, relaxing peacefully in the hammock of life.

Our lives are determined less about what happens to us, than the sum of the minute-by-minute decisions we make. We can’t always control what happens to us. But, we always have some measure of control over our response.

Fans of “The Munsters,” that old black & white show with Fred Gwynne as the lovable Herman Munster, may remember the dungeon, where Grandpa prepared magic potions. His concoctions, with ghastly ingredients such as eye of newt, could turn a person into almost anything. It’s a silly show. It makes an even sillier metaphor for this blog’s topic, leadership.

Procrastinating about a difficult decision is understandable. We’ve all experienced situations where problems lingered or opportunities passed us by because we waited, too long. The expression “let me sleep on it” can be a responsible approach to the decision-making process. But it can also be used as a convenient excuse for indecision.
Conferencing Means Video

More computing speed and memory is available in today’s run-of-the-mill laptop computer than a whole rack full of PDP-11’s. The combination of cheap computing power, widespread access to residential broadband and Voice Over IP (VoIP), set the table for what we all heard about in the 1960’s, what I flirted with in the 1980’s and what I experienced in the late 1990’s – video conferencing.
