What a novel concept, at least in today’s culture, that not only is it appropriate to co-mingle the spiritual aspects of our lives with the secular, it is an act of schizophrenia to separate them. In “Loving Monday,” John Beckett shares his personal and professional stories and shows how they are integrated. For him, a personal faith in Jesus Christ is not just a Sunday morning activity that provides energy for the grinding week ahead. Beckett brings his faith to work and applies it. I guess another way to look at it is we can no more send only our minds to work without the physical presence of our bodies than we can commute to work without our souls.

Loving Monday is part sociology and part theology presented through his interesting personal anecdotes. It is not written from a “holier than thou” perspective. Beckett is very humble in his faith, giving the glory to the only one who deserves it.

The book is an easy read, two or three hours max. As Beckett puts it, “…my goal is to get you through this book in two ninety-minute plane trips. And that’s with coffee and a bag of peanuts.” There is not a Christian alive that won’t gain something from “Loving Monday.”
